Grampians Psychology

Do I need a Referral?

You do not need a referral to see a Psychologist, but with certain types of referrals you are able to claim a significant medicare rebate.

Most people are referred by their GP. You usually need to book a long consultation with your GP to discuss your concerns and allow them time to make the appropriate referral. If you book a short time your GP may ask to return at another time for a longer appointment.

You may also be referred by a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician.

How do Medicare Referrals Work?

In order to receive a rebate for the majority of your session fees through Medicare, you need to have a valid referral from your GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician. Your GP will also need to complete a Mental Health Care Plan at the beginning of treatment. This 'opens the door' to receiving Medicare for Psychology.

Only certain mental health conditions are eligible to receive Medicare rebates for Psychology. Not all Psychology services qualify for Medicare.

Under the Medicare scheme, clients can have a maximum of 10 Medicare rebated sessions each calendar year.

Your referring doctor will need to refer you for further sessions after the initial 6 (if more are required).  These 10 sessions may or may not cover your entire treatment.

Your GP will decide if the rebates apply in your situation and will either refer you on Medicare, or privately. If you are referred privately, and do not qualify for a Medicare rebate, you may still qualify for a rebate from your private health insurance. You will need to contact your insurer and ask about your cover.

With a referral, the Medicare rebates are:

- Clinical Psychologist $137.05 (typical gap payment is approximately $75-$80)

-Registered Psychologist $93.35 (typical gap payment is approximately $110)

NDIS

We provide NDIS services to both self and plan managed clients

Assessment Fees

We provide a range of assessments for Autism Spectrum, ADHD, learning assessments and behaviour assessments. We do our very best to give an estimate of the usual amount of time each assessment takes, so that you can make an informed decision. However we do not give set fees with pre-set inclusions, as we tailor our assessments depending on the individual needs of each child. If your Psychologist feels that your child needs any additional assessment time to the estimate you were provided with, your Psychologist will discuss this with you.

Please contact our friendly practice manager, Adam,  on 0448408632 who can discuss our assessment process and fee estimates with you.
